Liverpool’s transfer window finally had lift off on Tuesday as the deadline draws ever closer.

The Reds have had a frustratingly quiet summer so far, with a number of issues in the squad failing to be addressed.

Things finally took a positive turn on Tuesday, though, with Liverpool confirming the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili as the first signing of the Arne Slot era.

Although supporters were obviously keen to get a look at their new man, he will not join up at Anfield until the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Before then, a glimpse of Mamardashvili in Liverpool training gear is perhaps the best we can hope for. Nevertheless, his move to join the Reds has still received a positive reaction back in Georgia.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia weighs in on Giorgi Mamardashvili move

In joining Liverpool for around £30m, Mamardashvili has become the most expensive Georgian footballer of all time.

Unsurprisingly, he’s also the first ever player from the country to be on the books at Liverpool.

Number one he may well be, but there will be plenty hoping that Mamardashvili is not the last Georgian to pull on Liverpool red.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the poster-boy of Georgian football and the man likely to one day take Mamardashvili’s ‘most expensive’ crown.

While the Napoli man is going nowhere before Friday’s transfer deadline day, there have been claims that when he is on the market, Liverpool will be in the mix to sign Kvaratskhelia.

It’s likely that Mamardashvili’s arrival will quicken suggestions that Anfield will be Kvaratskhelia’s next destination. Perhaps he and his national team goalkeeper will arrive together next summer?

In the meantime, Khvicha has shared a picture of Mamardashvili to his Instagram stories and wished the goalie all the best for his move to Liverpool.

“Good luck,” writes the 23-year-old, along with two bicep emojis and two love hearts.

Will Liverpool sign Kvaratskhelia?

There is obviously no link between Mamardashvili joining Liverpool and the possibility that Kvaratskhelia could, too.

Signing the winger would be a completely different scenario to the one presented with Liverpool over Mamardashvili.

With Valencia needing to make a sale, the Reds were able to get the 23-year-old at a decent price. The Spanish side were very willing negotiators.

On the flip-side, Napoli are often one of the most difficult sides to do business with in the whole of Europe. As he is a key player for them, the Partenopei will not want to lose Kvaratskhelia and if they do, it’ll be for an enormous fee.

Then again, if the Georgia international signs a new deal with a release clause intertwined, then that may well pique Liverpool’s interest. Get on the phone, Gio, let’s get you a friend!
