Liverpool will move to sign one of ‘the most exciting players in Europe’ when he becomes available

Liverpool are constantly on the lookout for how they can best improve their playing squad.

The Reds are not a team who regularly blow money for fun in the transfer market, instead they take a much more methodical approach.

Liverpool tend to follow players for a long time, get to know their character, family and mentality before moving to bring them to Anfield.

This can at times lead to slightly underwhelming transfer windows, where the Reds rule out many more players than they rule in.

However, it does mean that with background work done well in advance, FSG are well placed to pull the trigger when top targets do become available.

Liverpool hatching long-term Khvicha Kvaratskhelia plan

We’ve seen it many times before when Liverpool choose not to go into the market if the player they really want is not available.

The summer of 2020 is a perfect example of this. The Reds were badly in need of a new player at centre-back, after Dejan Lovren’s departure left them with just three options.

Despite the fact that they quite easily could have signed any old defender, Liverpool really wanted Ibrahima Konate, who was not free to move until 2021.

In the end, the Reds shot themselves in the foot a little by not buying anyone, as all three senior centre-backs suffered long-term injuries. However, it showed just how committed they are to signing the ‘right’ player.

This summer, the feeling is that Liverpool want a new forward. With that in mind, journalist Graeme Bailey says Liverpool recently came back to Napoli to ask about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“Just given the recent comments from his father and agent Liverpool amongst others were just checking in to make sure there wasn’t anything in it for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia,” Bailey exclusively tells Rousing The Kop.

“They already knew he wasn’t available this summer but they were just making sure that that was the case and seeing if there was a chink in Napoli’s armour, which there isn’t.”

Despite the almost certainty that the Georgian will not be leaving this summer, Bailey says that Liverpool will hang around and will ‘no doubt’ be in the mix to sign Kvaratskhelia if and when he does come onto the market.

“When he is available Liverpool will be one of the clubs in contention to sign him, there’s no doubt about that,” says the reporter. “But it seems like he’s going to sign a new deal. They were just doing their due diligence on that.

“If and when he goes depends on what his new deal looks like, if Victor Osimhen goes, how Antonio Conte does at Napoli, many differing factors there. It’s not a certainty that he’ll go at all but I imagine there will be a release clause in his contract if he does sign one.”

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would be worth the wait

Liverpool’s situation with a forward is not necessarily comparable to the one that engulfed their defence in 2020.

For the moment, Arne Slot still has a good number of forwards to work with. Many of them are – like Kvaratskhelia – left-sided attackers.

As a result, there’s no real rush to bring a player such as the 23-year-old in immediately. Nevertheless, it’s clearly something Liverpool have on their mind.

For many supporters, Anthony Gordon would be the perfect signing for Liverpool. But in our opinion, Kvaratskhelia is an even better player than the Newcastle man.

Jamie Carragher appears to agree. Carragher raved about Kvaratskhelia in February 2023, calling him ‘one of the most exciting players in Europe’.

There will be others who are keeping on top of his situation, of course there will. But if the Reds can once again stay patient and let the player know that they are waiting, it could pay off in a big way.
