Liverpool fans have been patiently waiting all summer long for their club to do something in the transfer market.
Remarkably, with just eight days remaining in the window, the Reds are the only Premier League side yet to make a new signing.
In fact, Liverpool are the one club among the top seven European divisions who are yet to bring in a new player during 2024.
The last player added to the Liverpool squad was Ryan Gravenberch, who signed on September the 1st 2023. Almost one year to the day.
Good things tend to come to those who wait, though, and it seems as though Arne Slot could now finally be closing in on his first ever Liverpool signing.

Liverpool closing in on Giorgi Mamardashvili
Heading into the last week of the transfer window, it still feels like there is the potential for a lot to happen at Liverpool.
There could be a fair few outgoings yet. Sepp van den Berg is close to leaving and the centre-back will not be the only one.
With so many heading out of the Anfield exit, there should be at least one or two coming in the other way.
The first of those looks set to be Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. It is perhaps not the most intoxicating transfer of all time, with Mamardashvili set to remain at his current club on-loan.
Still, a signing is a signing and writing in his Daily Briefing on Thursday morning, journalist Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are now ‘close’ to sealing their newest goalkeeper.

“Giorgi Mamardashvili is no longer going to Bournemouth, with the idea being that Liverpool could sign him before he then goes back on loan to Valencia until summer 2025,” says Romano.
“Mamardashvili has already said yes to Liverpool, and yes to the possibility of staying at Valencia on loan, so it’s close.
“The clubs are now trying to complete the final details of the deal, with Alisson to stay as the Liverpool number one for this season,” he adds.
“There is still some work to do, but Mamardashvili is close to Liverpool and there is optimism to make it happen.”
More on the way for Liverpool?
While Mamardashvili could end up being a great signing for Liverpool, his addition does nothing to help them in the here and now.
As a result, fans would still like to see some players brought in who can join up with the squad immediately.
As things stand, it looks most likely that the Reds could sign a new defender. Reports from this week have claimed that there is a feeling Liverpool could move for Marc Guehi, for example.
Despite those links – and more besides – nothing has yet firmed up for the Reds. Until it does, fans will likely remain pessimistic of further additions.
Still, it sounds like Mamardashvili is almost over the line. It might not feel like it just at the moment, but that could end up being hugely significant for Liverpool. Get excited.
