Liverpool supporters are waiting to see whether their club will be active in the last weeks of the transfer window.

The Reds have so far failed to add a single player to the squad which finished last season under Jurgen Klopp.

With Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Adrian all leaving over the summer, the Liverpool squad is weaker than it was back in May.

Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi in an attempt to help rectify that, but the Spaniard rejected the Reds, choosing to stay at Real Sociedad instead.

Reports following Zubimendi’s decision have claimed that Liverpool will not sign an alternative to the 25-year-old. However, there surely remains a chance that the Reds go in for a new forward.

PSV wary of Johan Bakayoko bids

Not too long ago, there were claims that Liverpool were ready to accelerate in the transfer market in August. Despite the attempt to sign Zubimendi, that has not really happened.

Part of that push would reportedly be Liverpool trying to sign not one but two new wide forwards.

Although Arne Slot already has a number of high quality options up front, it has seemed very possible that the Reds want at least one more.

For a while it had looked like Liverpool might sign Anthony Gordon. However, a more realistic target is perhaps Johan Bakayoko.

Despite Bakayoko being strongly linked with Liverpool, the 21-year-old is still a PSV Eindhoven player as the clock ticks down on the window.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, though, Bakayoko could still end up leaving PSV right at the end of the summer.

“Johan Bakayoko’s only concrete proposition this summer came from Nottingham Forest,” Tavolieri reports on X. “NFFC bid rejected by PSV and the player as Bakayoko only wants a club where he is involved in a battle for the title.

“PSV discussing & working to convince to sign a new deal with the Belgian winger. BUT… The Eredivisie club’s very conscious that a last minute offer in end August can happen & ready with some profiles already on the radar.”

Liverpool should make Johan Bakayoko offer

Bakayoko underlined his quality with a goal in PSV’s Eredivisie opener against RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.

It is a surprise that with so little time left in the window, the Belgium international remains at his current club.

There have been claims that Bakayoko is available for around £43m this summer and that does not sound like a price out of reach for Liverpool.

Heading into Saturday’s season opener with Ipswich Town, the Reds still do not really have any kind of natural back-up for Mohamed Salah. Bakayoko could be that man.

With PSV still interested in Sepp van den Berg, it feels like there could be some wiggle room on the price here, too. We wouldn’t be all that surprised to see Liverpool get themselves involved late on.
