Liverpool are in need of a big two weeks to salvage something from this summer’s transfer window.
The Reds didn’t have the look of a team who had too much to do heading into the market, but some minor tweaks still needed to happen.
Instead, there has been a deathly silence around Anfield. After being rejected by top target Martin Zubimendi, Liverpool are suddenly teetering on the edge of one of their most disappointing windows in years.
There is still time to change that, although claims that Liverpool will not target a Zubimendi alternative will do nothing to lift the gloom.
While things on the pitch have been good in pre-season, pessimism will surround the Reds campaign from the start if no signings are made at all. By the sounds of things, there is still some hope in that regard, though.

Liverpool set Giorgi Mamardashvili meeting
Liverpool have been playing a dangerous game all summer long. Despite having bordering on three months in which to sign anyone at all, they are the only Premier League team still without a new addition.
That perhaps will not be a huge surprise to fans who have become used to the way FSG do business over the years. However, it is a shame for Arne Slot.
The new head coach will probably have expected at least one or two new players with which to shape his team and now there’s no a likelihood that he won’t even get that.
Nevertheless, there is still time. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are working on something.

Romano has been reporting on Liverpool’s interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Valencia goalkeeper.
The Reds are said to be keen on signing Mamardashvili and then loaning him out as they wait and see what happens with Alisson Becker’s future.
And taking to X on Tuesday, Romano claimed that another meeting has now bee set up between Liverpool and Valencia to hash out a potential deal.
“One more meeting has already been scheduled for Liverpool to discuss Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with Valencia,” says the transfer expert. “Up to the Reds as he’d be loaned out and Georgian GK is keen on this solution.”
Anything else in the pipeline for Liverpool?
While Mamardashvili looks like a really good goalkeeper – Ange Postecoglou called him ‘outstanding’ on ITV during the Euros – this signing is unlikely to excite Liverpool fans at all.
The Reds are well stocked in the goalkeeping department right now and any new additions will simply cast further doubt on the future’s of Caoimhin Kelleher and – in particular – Alisson.
Liverpool supporters would no doubt prefer to hear news that their recruitment team are targeting a new midfielder, centre-back or even a forward.
For now, though, after the flurry of news and expectation over Zubimendi, nothing else seems imminent for the Reds.
There is still time, but Mamardashvili or no Mamardashvili, this is shaping up to be a summer of real disappointment.
