Liverpool are scrambling to get some transfer business done before the deadline closes in less than three weeks time.
The Reds had not been expected to do a huge amount in the window this summer, with the squad looking well-stocked as it is.
But with Arne Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp, the feeling was that a little refresh at Anfield would have been nice.
One or two positions could do with strengthening and it’s now safe to say that Liverpool have left it a little late in order to do that.
Nevertheless, things aren’t quite done and dusted just yet. It sounds like the Reds are ready to do all they can to bolster the first-team squad in the time they have left.

Liverpool ready to ‘do everything’ for Martin Zubimendi
There had been predictions that Liverpool would accelerate their transfer business in the early days of August.
Although that has happened to a degree with the push to sign Martin Zubimendi, some would perhaps have expected a little more going on.
Despite that, Zubimendi alone would be an excellent signing. The Spaniard’s addition currently hangs in the balance as he decides whether or not to leave his boyhood club, Real Sociedad.
As Zubimendi is debating joining Liverpool, updates have been coming thick and fast. The latest comes from journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the Reds are doing everything possible to convince the 25-year-old.

“Martin Zubimendi was on the pitch today [Friday] for Real Sociedad, but Liverpool are still working on this deal,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “New contacts are expected and it’s on the player, because Real Sociedad understand that Liverpool are pushing.
“They will agree on a deal with them if they want, if they want different payment terms, different structure of the deal, otherwise Liverpool will pay the clause,” he adds. “Real Sociedad understand that Liverpool are ready to do everything to sign Martin Zubimendi.
“Real Sociedad are offering a new deal to the boy, they are hoping for him to decide to stay at the club but Liverpool are still going to push in the next days waiting for Martin Zubimendi to communicate his decision.
“Arne Slot is also involved in this process to present the project. Richard Hughes is in active talks so keep an eye on this one, Liverpool want to get it done as soon as possible.”
What will Martin Zubimendi decide?
These are nervous days for supporters hoping to see Liverpool make their first signing of the summer. Things are never straightforward with the Reds, are they?
It has been claimed that Liverpool do not have a Martin Zubimendi alternative, in that the Euro 2024 winner is their top choice for the position. If he says ‘no,’ they’ll go into the season with what they have.
It still looks like Liverpool could make signings in other positions, but that would be a real risk.
The Reds clearly lacked a top defensive midfielder last season and it ended up costing them. There’s no reason the same thing would not happen again if they stay as they are.
For now, the general consensus seems to be that Zubimendi is leaning more towards staying than going. Liverpool obviously want him badly, so let’s hope it’s enough to convince the midfielder.
