Liverpool could make late push to stop Borussia Dortmund signing ‘incredible’ £26m player

Liverpool look likely to be active in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks.

The Reds are putting their final preparations together for the season as they return to base from the US.

Arne Slot now has the chance to work with his full Liverpool squad for the first time since taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

But with Liverpool identifying a top target in defensive midfield, it looks like this will not be the final group for the 2024/25 season.

As Reds supporters get excited over who the mystery midfielder could be, Liverpool could also be plotting another move further up the pitch.

Liverpool plotting Maximilian Beier hijack

While Liverpool supporters would be hugely satisfied with a top quality addition in defensive midfield, the Reds could do with being a little more active in the window besides.

A new centre-back remains something many fans will be wishing for, while there could even be another player brought in to supplement the forward line at Anfield.

It doesn’t look like Liverpool will sign Anthony Gordon this year, but that remains a saga that hasn’t gone away.

In the meantime, other forwards are being linked with the Reds, too. Johan Bakayoko could still move from PSV Eindhoven and he’s one to keep an eye on.

Another player to watch could well be Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier. Beier made Germany’s Euro 2024 squad after an excellent season with Hoffenheim.

On the back of scoring 16 Bundesliga goals, the 21-year-old has seen interest in his services sky-rocket this summer. Liverpool have been tracking Beier with keenness.

Unfortunately for the Reds, though, BILD report that Borussia Dortmund look the most likely to sign the Germany international.

Beier is reportedly keen on joining Dortmund, despite a £26m offer from Brentford being on the table. Nevertheless, it’s claimed that Liverpool could still make a late push in an attempt to overtake the Champions League finalists and snatch Beier.

Liverpool should keep an eye on Beier

We would imagine that this would be too little too late from a Liverpool point of view. It also seems unlikely that the Reds would get themselves embroiled in a late shootout for a player.

Knowing the way Liverpool like to operate, we think that they already know their targets and have already made steps to ensure that they are well placed to get them.

In Beier’s instance, it seems that Dortmund are the team who have secured their status as favourites pretty comfortably.

That should perhaps not mean the end of Beier and Liverpool, though. At just 21 Beier has already been deemed ‘incredible‘ and is still a very young player. He could develop massively with the Black and Yellows.

As a result, we’d suggest that Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on how Beier does if he ends up making the move to Dortmund. Maybe not one for this summer, but a name very much worth jotting down for future reference.
