Liverpool remain strongly linked with a summer transfer window move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

The attacker, who previously played for Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton, has just finished representing England at Euro 2024.

But his club future remains up in the air, with former Newcastle chief Amanda Staveley confirming Liverpool were chasing Gordon.

He is still a Newcastle player for the time being, and it could remain that way given that the transfer window is already well underway.

Gordon was offered to Liverpool at around £85million earlier this summer, with the Magpies needing to rebalance their books.

What would it take for Liverpool to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle?

Newcastle did, however, do exactly that by selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, losing Gordon to Liverpool is still a possibility, even with Newcastle being desperate to keep the winger.

“In case they decide to do something in the offensive positions, Anthony Gordon remains a player they really rate, they really like, and so internally they are discussing the situation because they keep believing that he could be a fantastic player for the future of Liverpool,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“But again the problem could be the valuation with Newcastle, because he’s a really important player for them, and they don’t have the intention to make a normal price for Gordon. It has to be a big price for him in order to give a potential green light.”

Do Liverpool need to bring in Anthony Gordon?

Gordon enjoyed a superb season last time out, with his efforts under Eddie Howe earning him a spot at Euro 2024.

England manager Gareth Southgate largely overlooked the winger, although this summer’s tournament may just have come too early for Gordon.

At 23, he has a long career ahead of him, with the former Everton attacker only going to get better and better.

But Liverpool already boast a strong attacking lineup, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all available.

Splashing out big money on Gordon could, therefore, be a waste, particularly if the winger was to flop at Anfield.
