Liverpool are still potentially in the market to strengthen their forward line this summer.
Despite Arne Slot boasting five excellent attacking options, and some stellar youngsters to boot, the Reds seemingly want something extra going forward.
So far, the strongest links for them to add another player to the mix have been for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
Gordon would love to join Liverpool and was indeed offered to the Reds earlier this summer. However, after Newcastle got cold feet, they pulled the plug. Deal off.
Although some would love to see Liverpool come back in for boyhood Red Gordon, there’s a player simmering in the first-team squad who is about to show why they do not need to.

Luis Diaz could save Liverpool a fortune
Had Gordon come to Anfield this summer, it would have set Liverpool back an enormous £75m.
When you look at the players the 23-year-old would be competing against for a place in the team, you have to say that the money could be better used elsewhere.
Liverpool have identified a top target in defensive midfield and we’d much rather see the Reds spend the money to secure that area of the pitch.
Another reason for Liverpool to hold off on Gordon is that it now looks like Luis Diaz is staying put.

There have been rumours all summer long that Diaz could be sold if a good offer came in for him. Barcelona would like to sign Diaz and for a while it felt like a move that could come about.
However, Barca are on the verge of bringing Dani Olmo back to the club from RB Leipzig. With the two playing somewhat similar roles on the pitch, that would surely end any interest in Liverpool’s No.7.
So, unless PSG come and blow the roof off with a massive bid, Diaz is going nowhere.
To some, that may even be a disappointment. In the push to sign Gordon, Lucho has been reduced to something like collateral damage in the eyes of some. But we think he’s about to hit back in a big way.
Luis Diaz ready for big season
Part of the reason Liverpool fans may be happy to see Diaz depart is that he has seemingly dropped off hugely from the player who first arrived in January 2022.
While that may be true to an extent, it’s also worth pointing out that last season was his first full, injury free campaign with the Reds. After a nasty knee problem ruined 2022/23 for the Colombian, he’s still working his way back.
This term, with a full uninterrupted year behind him, Diaz has more of a chance to get back to his best. When the £50m forward is in full flight, there are few better around.
Another of the big question marks over Diaz is that he doesn’t score enough goals. Mind you, his 13 in 51 is more or less identical to Gordon’s record of 12 in 48 last season for Newcastle. In terms of assists, however, Gordon got 10 to Diaz’s five.
The Newcastle man may have the edge over Lucho in creativity terms and has a good four years on him, too. But Diaz is coming into his prime, injury free and on the back of a good summer with Colombia. Don’t write him off.
