Liverpool are cutting it tight to make some much-needed additions to their squad ahead of the new season.

Arne Slot is set to finally have his full squad available, with Liverpool kicking off their new Premier League campaign on 17 August.

The Reds travel to newly-promoted Ipswich Town in their opening game, with Liverpool fans only just seeing their new away kit on the pitch for the first time.

It was worn by the players in the pre-season clash against Manchester United, which the Merseyside club won 3-0.

Slot may have given away some of his tactics during the match, but it remains to be seen which players will make his starting XI going forward.

Jarell Quansah in line to start for Liverpool next season

One area of the pitch that is especially uncertain for many fans is central defence, with Liverpool supporters not sure who will partner Virgil van Dijk.

According to The Athletic, however, Jarell Quansah remains the leading candidate to take on that role next season.

One former Reds midfielder was wowed by the centre-back in the latest match, with Gary McAllister labelling a Quansah pass ‘outstanding’.

Who will Arne Slot play in defence at Liverpool?

Quansah enjoyed a superb breakout season last time out, with all 33 of his Liverpool appearances coming in 2022/23.

The defender’s top displays earned him a call-up to the provisional England squad for Euro 2024, although the 21-year-old was cut from the final squad.

Quansah has already formed a strong partnership with Van Dijk, and has so far looked at ease in pre-season.

Fellow youngster Sepp van den Berg has also appeared at centre-back in pre-season, along with Ibrahima Konate.

It remains to be seen, however, who makes the cut alongside Van Dijk, with a brand new centre-back option potentially arriving soon given the exit of Joel Matip.
