Arne Slot reveals when he’ll finally have his full Liverpool squad in training this summer

Liverpool are flying back to England after comfortably beating Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds have had a productive two week stay in the USA, winning three out of three matches.

For Arne Slot, it has been a perfect start to life at Liverpool. Wins over Arsenal and United should act as a big confidence boost ahead of the new season.

Slot will also likely have been pleased with the shape of his Liverpool squad. Even with so many first-team players still missing, those who were available have stood up to be counted.

As the Reds return to the AXA Training Centre, though, the Dutchman will surely be pleased to see some big names come back for Liverpool.

Arne Slot reveals Liverpool squad return date

During their time in the USA, bits and pieces of the Liverpool squad have been slowly filtering back to work.

While they’ve been away, Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch and – surprisingly – Alexis Mac Allister have all joined up.

Slot seemed thrilled to see Mac Allister in particular, with the 25-year-old initially not expected back until Liverpool returned home.

Even with that quartet of arrivals, though, the Reds are still missing seven important players.

With less than two weeks to go before the start of the Premier League season – and a final friendly of the summer to come at Anfield next weekend – Slot could really do with having everyone back.

Thankfully, speaking to liverpoolfc.com before the 3-0 victory over United, the Dutchman confirmed that Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker and Luis Diaz are all expected back very soon.

“I think it’s a bit of fatigue and we don’t want to take any risks because we fly back to Liverpool tonight,” Slot said, initially addressing the lack of Dominik Szoboszlai in Sunday’s matchday squad.

“And on Tuesday all the other players arrive as well, so we want to start off then with all the players available and we didn’t want to take any risk with him today.”

Youngsters set to stay with the squad

Liverpool could really do with the seven players who have missed pre-season so far coming back in and hitting the ground running immediately.

However, with Slot employing a new style of training at Liverpool, it may take some of them a little while to get properly up to speed.

As a result, it will be interesting to see whether the head coach keeps any of the academy players he has been working with for the past month around to supplement the group.

It’s likely that at least a handful of them will remain and that will be indicative of which of them have caught Slot’s eye this summer.

With players like Nat Phillips expected to leave Liverpool, there could be slots open for others to take their chance. It will be fascinating to see what Slot decides.
