Liverpool set to enter into ‘concrete talks’ as they look for new midfielder

Liverpool are flying home on Sunday as they prepare for a busy couple of weeks in the transfer market.

The Reds have completed a very successful tour of the USA, in which they won three games out of three.

Defeating Arenal and Manchester United along the way, Arne Slot has every right to be delighted with his first weeks with the Liverpool squad.

The time away has also given Slot the chance to decide what areas of the team need improving. Decisions look to have been made on fringe players, too, with Liverpool rejecting a bid for Fabio Carvalho.

With less than two weeks until the Reds Premier League opener with Ipswich Town, it seems like things are about to get serious in the market at Anfield.

Liverpool set for concrete talks with signings

Liverpool fans have had to be incredibly patient throughout the summer so far. As other teams around them have signed player after player, the Reds have remained motionless.

However, after watching their team thrive in the early days under Slot, supporters will now be feeling more positive about the upcoming season.

And with the promise that Liverpool are set to accelerate in the transfer market, the excitement is about to get ramped up a notch.

For now, however, it feels a little like the quiet before the storm. And as the Reds finally get their ducks in a row, journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a crucial update.

Speaking on his Playback channel, transfer expert Romano once again confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon.

More interestingly, though, the reporter has also insisted that next week will see Liverpool put their foot on the pedal for some new additions.

“On Liverpool, still nothing, but what I can tell you is that in the next days I expect them to accelerate,” he says.

“I expect them to enter into concrete talks to activate some option. They are looking at some players in the midfield.”

Who could the mystery midfielder be?

Liverpool are not short of midfielders in truth. But it does seem likely that they will now target a player to replace Wataru Endo, who is up for sale.

Dominik Szoboszlai did well playing deeper against Arsenal, but perhaps Slot sees him more as an attacking midfielder.

Ryana Gravenberch looks set for a big role, too, but the Dutchman is still a young player who possibly needs more time to develop.

If Liverpool are looking at an option who can come in and be elite immediately, then that is a difficult market to go into.

In our opinion, though, Martin Zubimendi is the perfect signing for Liverpool. If the mystery midfielder ends up being the Spaniard, no one will be complaining about a lack of activity anymore.
