A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Anfield chiefs rival Manchester United to sign a 16-assist talent and Amanda Staveley opens up on Anthony Gordon’s transfer.
Liverpool outcast Rhys Williams sparks a League One transfer fight
Multiple League One and Turkish Super Lig clubs are eying a transfer for Liverpool defender Rhys Williams. That is according to The Athletic, which reports that new Reds boss Arne Slot does not plan on using the 23-year-old and has Williams training with Liverpool’s Under-21s.
Slot has not let Williams train with the Liverpool first-team after succeeding Jurgen Klopp in charge this summer. The centre-half has also not played for the Reds in a competitive game since earning all 19 of his career senior appearances over the 2020/21 season under Klopp.

Williams has spent the last two terms away from Anfield on loan to Swansea City, Blackpool, Aberdeen and Port Vale. He further only managed to make one first-team appearance in the 2023/24 season after sustaining multiple injuries, which saw him spend 16 days at Port Vale.

Amanda Staveley confirms Liverpool have shown interest in Anthony Gordon
Amanda Staveley has confirmed that Liverpool have shown interest in a transfer for Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United this summer. She also states that the Reds’ interest in a deal for the 23-year-old raised ‘concern’ at St James’ Park before Staveley left her role on Tyneside.
Newcastle’s majority owners, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, bought Staveley out of her minatory shareholding in the Magpies earlier in July. Before that, her focus had been on trying to keep Gordon and Alexander Isak at the club with both players drawing interest.
Liverpool also rejected the chance to sign Gordon after being offered the forward’s transfer for £85m as Newcastle moved to avoid concerns regarding the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. But just the threat of Gordon going left Staveley fearing for Newcastle.
Staveley told The Athletic: “My biggest concern was that we’d lose Alex or Anthony because Liverpool chased him, and both are extraordinary players. Negotiating is tough because you have to pretend it means nothing to you when it means everything.”

Liverpool want to beat Manchester United to the transfer of Joey Veerman

Liverpool hope to seek revenge on rivals Manchester United for missing out on Leny Yoro by landing the transfer of Joey Veerman. That is according to CaughtOffside, which reports that the arch Premier League nemesis are set to fight it out to sign the PSV Eindhoven midfielder.
Erik ten Hag has marked Veerman as the next Dutchman he wants at Old Trafford in case the Red Devils fail to sign Manuel Ugarte. But Manchester United may have to fight Liverpool for the 16-cap Netherlands international as Anfield chiefs are also tracking Veerman’s situation.
The 25-year-old has now entered the final two years of his contract at PSV and would offer a versatile central presence. Veerman can play up and down the spine of a midfield and struck five goals plus a whopping 16 assists over 29 Eredivisie appearances, starting 28, last term.
