A number of English teams are believed to be interested in signing a Liverpool player this summer who Arne Slot wants to sell.

The Dutch coach has been tasked with an almost impossible job this off-season in getting Liverpool prepared for the new Premier League season, the first time the Reds are experiencing this without Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

With Arne Slot and his team currently in America, transfer business has been slow, with Wataru Endo and Sepp van den Berg have been subject to transfer offers, both if which have been swiftly rejected by Liverpool.

And one player is now attracting interest from English clubs this summer.

Rhys Williams attracting English interest with Liverpool exit planned

According to the Athletic, Rhys Williams is on the radar for a number of League One clubs this summer, with the Kirkby academy graduate expected to leave Liverpool having already been deemed by Slot as not part of the first-team plans.

Lauded as ‘exceptional’ by Klopp, the 23-year-old centre-back has not featured for Liverpool since the 2020/21 season, with Williams since going out on various loan moves to the likes of Swansea City, Blackpool and Port Vale.

With the defender now training with the U-21s, it’s clear that Williams needs to move on from Liverpool if he’s to get his once-promising career back up and running having not played for the Reds in three years.

And with League One teams interested in signing the youngster, Williams should be pushing for a move out of Anfield, with the defender aware that he needs to start playing regular football if he’s to reach his true potential.

Liverpool need to find a transfer solution for Williams

Williams’ career has gone in a direction nobody would have predicted after the defender broke through into Liverpool’s starting XI during the 2020/21 season, with the centre-back showing promise of becoming a regular at Anfield.

However, football is a funny and cruel game, and Williams is now in need of a fresh start away from Anfield, with Liverpool in a position where they must find a solution for the defender as soon as possible.

Spending the summer training with Liverpool’s U-21s has done little to help Williams, and the sooner the Reds find a suitor for the youngster, the quicker the defender can start working on his career and getting back up to scratch.
