Just eight players made the first pre-season training session, but the squad has become bigger and bigger in recent weeks.

Many star names are gradually returning from their holidays, with Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate the latest to arrive.

Liverpool are currently training for the new campaign in the USA, where they have already played one pre-season friendly.

“I thought the game in Pittsburgh was a good exercise,” McAllister told Sky Sports. “We saw a lot of the youngsters playing, which was really exciting. A good result.

“And then moving on, getting down here [to Philadelphia], I went to training, just seeing little bits of combination play in and around the box, the corner of the box, little give-and-gos, so that was interesting. And then there was a little bit of build-up play at one end of the ground.

“I think that’s what you’re going to see from Liverpool, maybe play a few more passes going into the [final] third of the field.”

It is early days for Slot, with the Dutchman needing plenty of time to settle into his new role after taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

But he has already garnered praise from some of his new players, with Conor Bradley enoying training under Slot so far.

Stefan Bajcetic meanwhile believes the sessions under Slot have been hard physically, with the midfielder back in full training after a lengthy spell out injured.

The manager will be satisfied with his progress so far, but there is, of course, plenty of room for changes given the overall ambitions for next season.

Liverpool simply cannot afford to fall any further behind the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, with new signings now needed at Anfield.
