Liverpool paid millions in transfer markets to build their 2023/24 first-team ranks, so here is how much the Reds spent in fees to sign all of the players they had at Anfield.
The Merseyside club regularly dipped their toe in the sales to create a squad their manager Jurgen Klopp could possibly add silverware to Liverpool’s trophy cabinet with. Stars moving to Anfield also saw Liverpool’s 23/24 wage bill reach new levels in return for eying trophies.
Klopp also welcomed a flurry of world-class players to Merseyside while building a team he believed would hand Liverpool success. Yet those signings also often saw the Reds invest a pretty penny. But some of their first-team ranks have also come from Liverpool’s academy.
So, with that in mind, Rousing The Kop has taken a look into how much Liverpool spent to sign every first-team player in the senior squad at Anfield during the 2023/24 campaign…
Alisson Becker – £58m
Liverpool, albeit briefly, made Alisson Becker the world’s most expensive goalkeeper with his transfer from AS Roma worth an initial €62.5m (£58m) plus €10m (£9m) in performance-related add-ons in July 2018.

Adrian – £0
Liverpool signed Adrian to provide experienced depth in goal in August 2019 following West Ham United’s decision to release the Spaniard.
Caoimhin Kelleher – £30,000
Liverpool agreed to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Ringmahon Rangers in July 2015 as the Irish club only wanted £30k.
Marcelo Pitaluga – £2m
Fluminense received £2m from Liverpool to sell Marcelo Pitaluga from the Brazilian outfit’s Under-20 side in September 2020.
Joe Gomez – £3.5m
Charlton Athletic received a fee of £3.5m to sanction the transfer of Joe Gomez to Liverpool in July 2015.
Virgil van Dijk – £75m
Liverpool made Virgil van Dijk the world’s most expensive defender with his transfer from Southampton in January 2018 for a fee of £75m.

Ibrahima Konate – £36m
Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in May 2021 by triggering a release clause worth a fee of £36m.
Konstantinos Tsimikas – £12m
Olympiacos sold Konstantinos Tsimikas to Liverpool for a fee of £12m in August 2020.
Calvin Ramsay – £4m
Liverpool invested in youth when they secured the transfer of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen in June 2022 for an initial fee of £4m. The Dons can secure up to £6.5m with future add-ons.
Andrew Robertson – £8m
Liverpool paid Hull City an initial fee of £8m, rising to £10m with add-ons, for the transfer of Andrew Robertson in July 2017 straight after the Tigers’ relegation from the Premier League.

Joel Matip – £0
Liverpool reached an agreement with Joel Matip to join as a free agent in February 2016 ahead of his contract with FC Schalke 04 expiring that June.
Rhys Williams – £0
Rhys Williams did not cost Liverpool a fee to sign, having first joined the Reds’ academy at the Under-10 level.
Nat Phillips – £0
Nat Phillips did not cost Liverpool a fee to sign when he joined in August 2016, having left Bolton Wanderers’ academy following the expiration of his contract earlier in the summer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – £0
Trent Alexander-Arnold did not cost Liverpool a fee to sign, having first joined the Reds as an academy prospect at the age of six.

Sepp van den Berg – £1.5m
Liverpool agreed on an initial £1.5m fee with Dutch side PEC Zwolle for the transfer of Sepp van den Berg in July 2019. But the fee could rise to £4.5m based on his number of Premier League and European appearances for the Reds.
Jarell Quansah – £0
Jarell Quansah did not cost Liverpool a transfer fee to sign, having first joined the Reds as an academy talent at the age of just five.
Conor Bradley – £0
Liverpool added Conor Bradley to their academy ranks in September 2019 following a trial spell from Dungannon United.
Wataru Endo – £16m
VfB Stuttgart received £16m for the transfer of Wataru Endo to Liverpool in August 2023.
Thiago Alcantara – £20m
Bayern Munich sold midfielder Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool for an initial fee of £20m in September 2020. But the Reds also agreed to include add-ons that take the fee to £25m.
Dominik Szoboszlai – £60m
Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig after triggering a £60m release clause in the Hungarian’s contract in July 2023.

Alexis Mac Allister – £35m
Liverpool triggered a £35m release clause in the contract of Alexis Mac Allister at Brighton & Hove Albion in June 2023. But the midfielder’s move can reach a fee of £55m after add-ons.
Curtis Jones – £0
Curtis Jones did not cost Liverpool a fee to sign, having first entered their academy ranks at the Under-9 level.
Harvey Elliott – £1.5m
The Professional Football Compensation Committee made Liverpool pay Fulham £1.5m, plus £3m in add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause, for Harvey Elliott in February 2021. It was a record compensation fee for a 16-year-old, who quit Fulham at the end of his contract in July 2019.

Ryan Gravenberch – £34.5m
Liverpool paid Bayern Munich a fee of £34.5m to sign Ryan Gravenberch in September 2023 in a deadline day transfer.
Stefan Bajcetic – £225,000
Liverpool signed Stefan Bajcetic from Celta Vigo as a 16-year-old talent for a fee of £225k in January 2021.
Mohamed Salah – £34m
Anfield chiefs sealed the transfer of a Liverpool legend from AS Roma in June 2017 for a fee of £34m as Mohamed Salah returned to the Premier League.

Cody Gakpo – £35m
Liverpool agreed on an initial fee of £35m, rising to £44m after add-ons, with PSV Eindhoven in December 2022 for the transfer of Cody Gakpo ahead of the January 2023 sales opening.
Diogo Jota – £41m
Wolves and Liverpool agreed to a structured transfer for Diogo Jota to head to Anfield as Ki-Jana Hoever also moved to Molineux in September 2020. Jota, technically, cost the Reds an initial £41m, plus £4m in add-ons. But Hoever left the Reds for £9m, plus £4.5m in add-ons.
Luis Diaz – £37.5m
Liverpool welcomed Luis Diaz to Merseyside in January 2022 after paying FC Porto an initial £37.5m, rising to £50m with add-ons.
Darwin Nunez – £64m
Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez could cost Liverpool a club-record fee of £85m following his transfer from SL Benfica. He moved to Merseyside for an initial sum of £64m in June 2022.

Fabio Carvalho – £5m
Fulham accepted an initial fee of £5m, rising to £7.5m after add-ons, to sell Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool in July 2022.
Ben Doak – £600,000
Liverpool paid Celtic a compensation fee of £600k to sign Ben Doak from their academy in March 2022.
