Liverpool supporters are sweating on the future of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold had a slightly injury-hit season for the Reds but still underlined his importance to the club time and time again.

Since breaking out of the academy in 2017, the right-back has become one of the absolute key members of the Liverpool squad.

As Arne Slot takes over from Jurgen Klopp, though, there have been claims that Alexander-Arnold could leave Liverpool for Real Madrid.

With just one year left on his contract at Anfield, it’s really coming up to make or break time for the 25-year-old.

What Trent Alexander-Arnold is up to now

It has been a difficult few months for Alexander-Arnold. First of all, the only first-team manager he’s ever known at Liverpool – Klopp – departed.

The exit of Klopp hit Alexander-Arnold hard but he still headed into Euro 2024 in England’s starting XI.

But after playing twice in midfield, the Scouser was then dropped by Gareth Southgate. This led to claims that Alexander-Arnold had been ‘hung out to dry‘ by the England manager.

From there on in, Trent could barely get a look in. The tournament ended with him stuck on the bench as England were beaten by Spain in the final.

Since then, it has emerged that some in the England squad think Alexander-Arnold could join Real Madrid. His close friendship with Jude Bellingham is reportedly the deciding factor.

And as those rumours continue to swirl, journalist Paul Gorst has told The Redmen TV what Trent is currently up to as he waits for an important return to Merseyside.

“At the moment the player and the camp are all quite relaxed and enjoying an end of season holiday which has been well deserved,” says Gorst. “Maybe when he returns to pre-season we’ll see movement on that front.

“I’d guess it’s one of the real priorities for Richard Hughes,” adds the reporter. “I know that before he [Hughes] even started he was reaching out to representatives of some of the players. Putting two and two together one of those will have been Trent.

“So, certainly work to do for the powers that be at Liverpool but they can’t countenance losing the vice-captain for nothing next summer. They’ve got to really get around the table and thrash it out.”

Arne Slot makes Trent Alexander-Arnold decision

As Alexander-Arnold enjoys his holiday, his Liverpool teammates are continuing preparations for the new season.

Work at the AXA Training Centre has been ongoing for the past couple of weeks now as Slot gets to grips with his new club.

One of the biggest calls the new Liverpool boss will have to make is what to do with Alexander-Arnold, position wise. Obviously, if the vice-captain leaves, then there’s no longer anything to decide.

But for the time being it still seems unlikely that Trent will go. As a result, Slot has now picked where he will play Alexander-Arnold, at right-back or in midfield.

With the decision still not public knowledge, we’ll have to wait and see what Arne has chosen. In the meantime, hopefully Alexander-Arnold can have a good rest and make the right decision about his future.
