Liverpool told they have a ‘very special’ player who would be simply adored if he joined Real Madrid

As Liverpool found out the hard way, Real Madrid are the undisputed kings of European football right now.

Ever since winning their historic ‘La Decima’ – the 10th Champions League or European Cup triumph in 2014 – they have gone on to lift five more continental titles.

Two of those were at the expense of Liverpool, who were beaten in both the 2018 and 2022 Champions League finals.

Although the trophy may not have headed back to Anfield in either of those years, Liverpool’s club history is almost as impressive as Real’s.

Between them they are football royalty and only a handful of players have been able to call both clubs home.

Trent Alexander-Arnold told of Real Madrid adoration

Liverpool have never really been able to get any top players off Real Madrid, with transfers between the club tending to go the other way.

Los Blancos have taken Liverpool academy graduates Michael Owen and Steve McManaman to the Bernabeu, while also plucking Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa from the Reds.

Liverpool’s sole signing from Real came in the deal that took Owen to the Spanish capital in 2004. The Reds got Antonio Nunez and a criminally low transfer fee.

The last time the two clubs did business was for Alonso and Arbeloa in the summer of 2009. 15 years on though, and Real are lurking at the gates of the AXA Training Centre once again.

According to reports, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been speaking to Real Madrid about joining since March. Out of contract at Anfield next year, Trent is getting dangerously close to the exit door.

The hope remains that the Scouser signs a new contract at stays at his boyhood club. But speaking to TalkSPORT, pundit Andy Townsend says Alexander-Arnold would be ‘adored’ at Madrid.

“He’s quite unique as a footballer, I don’t think I’ve seen anybody strike a ball, deliver a ball when he’s at his best than Trent,” raved Townsend. “He’s up there with De Bruyne in terms of ability to produce something very, very special. Those sorts of players don’t come around very often. He’s absolutely amazing with the ball at his feet.

“I think he’s an incredible player, I really do, and I could see him being absolutely adored at a club like Real Madrid,” he adds. “But it would be such a shame to see him leave these shores because he’s a brilliant watch.”

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold leave Liverpool?

It seems unthinkable that Liverpool have still not sorted Alexander-Arnold’s contract, and yet here we are.

The 25-year-old is the vice captain for the Reds and is an absolutely key member of the Liverpool squad. There’s no way things should have gotten to this point.

Obviously, Real Madrid are a dream for a lot of players. No matter who you’re playing for, whether it’s your boyhood club or not, the Spanish giants are going to turn your head at least a little.

Carlo Ancelotti is building a quite exceptional squad at the Bernabeu, with Kylian Mbappe presented on Wednesday.

For Trent to join his mate Jude Bellingham as well as Mbappe and the array of stars out there must be tempting. But for the moment we’re still expecting a new deal to be sorted and Alexander-Arnold to stay.
