A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Anfield chiefs listen to a plea for a cheap transfer and why the Reds did not rival Manchester United for Leny Yoro’s transfer.
Real Madrid have been monitoring Trent Alexander-Arnold since March
Real Madrid have been monitoring Trent Alexander-Arnold since March while talks about his new contract at Liverpool roll on. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Los Blancos are attentive to the fact the 25-year-old has now entered the final year of his terms.
Alexander-Arnold last committed to a new contract in July 2021 and now faces an uncertain future at Liverpool. Real Madrid are keen to stay alert to any developments as they monitor the market for players on expiring deals. Dani Carvajal is also 32 and out of contract in 2025.

Romano’s claim also follows Christian Falk reporting that Real Madrid have begun talks with Alexander-Arnold about his transfer. The Liverpool academy graduate is even interested in a move to the Santiago Bernabeu with Anfield chiefs yet to present him with a tempting deal.

Why Liverpool did not push to stop Leny Yoro from joining Manchester United
LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro was a ‘dream’ target for Liverpool this summer yet is now on course for a transfer to Manchester United. But Anfield chiefs elected against making a great effort to convince the 18-year-old after Yoro’s preferred transfer to Real Madrid fell through.
That is according to the Liverpool ECHO, which reports that two reasons prevented Liverpool from seriously challenging Manchester United over Yoro’s transfer. The first factor was Lille’s price tag, with the Ligue 1 side ultimately accepting a £52m offer from the Red Devils to sell.
Liverpool believe Yoro is a generational talent and viewed his transfer outside of their focus for immediate reinforcements. But Anfield chiefs doubted the opportunities Arne Slot could offer in the 2024/25 term given their existing options of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Manchester United, on the other hand, moved ahead with their interest as Erik ten Hag will afford Yoro regular minutes. The France Under-23 ace might even show the Reds what they have passed up on when they meet Manchester United during Liverpool’s pre-season tour.

PSV Eindhoven push Liverpool to lower Sepp van den Berg’s price tag
PSV Eindhoven rate Sepp van den Berg as their top transfer target but are pushing Liverpool to lower their asking price. That is according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, who reports that the Eredivisie giants want the Reds to knock several million off their €20m (£17m) demands.
The 22-year-old captivated PSV while on loan to 1.FSV Mainz 05 during the 2023/24 season. Philips Stadion chiefs are now prepared to go far for his transfer but cannot shop in the price range the Reds want. Any move this summer would also mark his return to the Netherlands.
Van den Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2019 and has mainly spent his time away on loan since. Jurgen Klopp only handed the former U21 international four first-team fixtures whilst in charge at Anfield. His last game for the Reds even came way back in February 2020.
