Liverpool’s interest in £59m Juventus player is starting to really grow

Liverpool are continuing to hold fire in the transfer market as they wait for the right opportunity.

The Reds often tend to be calculated during the window and are always reluctant to make signings they don’t feel they really need.

This often leads to Liverpool getting their business done nice and early before relaxing for the remainder of the summer.

However, with international football taking centre-stage and Arne Slot still getting used to his surroundings, the Reds look to be doing things the opposite way around this time.

With pre-season now starting at the AXA Training Centre, though, things need to start getting serious. By the sounds of things, that’s exactly what Liverpool are planning on.

Liverpool ramp up interest in Gleison Bremer

Liverpool fans would mostly agree that a new centre-back should be the priority signing of the summer.

The Liverpool squad is one defender down after Joel Matip left the club at the end of the season. Sepp van den Berg has returned from loan but there are still question marks over the Dutchman’s future.

In terms of new signings, the Reds also have not brought a defender to Anfield since 2021, when Ibrahima Konate joined.

They have been linked with doing business at the back since, though. One player who was heavily linked back in 2022, for example, was Gleison Bremer.

Then at Torino, Bremer was said to be a top target for Liverpool before he ultimately joined Juventus. Two years on, and the 27-year-old is reportedly on Liverpool’s list again.

According to Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale, the Reds are one of the teams to have become keen on signing Bremer in ‘recent weeks.’

“Chelsea and Man Utd continue to monitor Gleison Bremer, but in recent weeks Liverpool and Bayern have also informed themselves,” the reporter says on X. “The Bavarians also tested [Dean] Huijsen, but remain very strong on [Jonathan] Tah.

“The intention of Juve, as written in May, is to keep him. He’s not on the market. Only offers of at least 70 million [£59m] could give pause for thought this season, but today no offer has been received by the Bianconeri.

“The clause which varies between 60 and 70 will come into effect in 2025/26.”

Gleison Bremer would be a top signing for Liverpool

There is good reason Liverpool wanted Bremer two years ago. The Brazil international had just been named Serie A defender of the year.

Since moving to Juve, Bremer has continued to be solid, lifting the Coppa Italia with the Bianconeri last season.

Bremer has also named one of his idols as Virgil van Dijk and in the image of the Liverpool captain, Bremer was statistically the most difficult player to get the ball past in Serie A in 2021/22.

Despite all of the positives, though, we don’t see Liverpool signing the Juve man. His price is far higher than the Reds would typically wish to spend on a 27-year-old.

With Juventus also keen to keep him, it doesn’t sound like one that will come to fruition for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, we’d love to be proven wrong. Bremer and Van Dijk would be one mean partnership.
