Liverpool are already trying to get their ducks in a row for the upcoming summer transfer window.
As of now, we don’t even know who’ll be in charge of the Reds, either as sporting director or manager. However strong the rumours surrounding Xabi Alonso continue to be, nothing is sorted yet.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are notorious for trying to get their transfer business done early. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano’s latest update, they could be doing the same again. Speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday, Romano highlighted Liverpool’s part in the summer race for Wolves forward Pedro Neto.
“Keep an eye on him for the summer,” says the journalist. “From what I’m hearing he’s very likely to leave in the summer transfer window. There will be important clubs on it.
“His agent is already in contact with some clubs. I can’t mention the clubs yet but for sure the appreciation of clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham is clear for a long time. Neto was appreciated by Liverpool also months ago, let’s see now what’s going to happen with the new director.
“But these three clubs for sure are showing interest in Pedro Neto in terms of scouting, let’s see what’s going to happen in terms of negotiations in the next months.”
Liverpool keeping tabs on Neto
Liverpool’s interest in Neto is certainly not a new thing. As Romano says, they have appreciated the 23-year-old for a while now.
Although the Italian reporter mentions ‘months,’ it seems that it could even have been years that the Reds have been keeping tabs on Neto at Wolves.
This season, the Portugal international has gone up another level.
Injuries have continued to be a feature of his game, which is a shame. But when he is fit, Neto is such a slippery customer.
Tottenham Hotspur found that out last weekend when the rapid winger rinsed their defence to set up Joao Gomes’ second goal against them.

It was a piece of wing play that Liverpool’s very own Mohamed Salah would have been proud of. As Salah’s future continues to be up for debate, Neto could certainly be an option to fill that void.
Having said that, recent reports have suggested that Wolves could be looking for as much as £79m to sell their No.7 this summer. Good as he is, that may well put him out of Liverpool’s reach.
With competition from other top sides, the Molineux side will be hoping to recoup as much of that as possible.
From our point of view, that’s way too much for a player like Neto. If the price is more reasonable though, then Liverpool should retain their interest.
