Liverpool continue to look at options in the transfer window despite Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure.

The Reds currently have no idea who’ll be overseeing their summer business. Without a sporting director or managerial appointment, they’re stabbing a little in the dark.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have a recruitment team that goes beyond the two most senior footballing figures. And according to Football Transfers, they’ve identified Wolves forward Pedro Neto as a potential target.

They claim that the Reds are one of three top Premier League sides interested in Neto ahead of the summer. Manchester City and Arsenal are said to be the other two, with City reportedly seeing the 23-year-old as a potential successor to Bernardo Silva. Arsenal on the other hand are claimed to be ready to go ‘all out’ to get Neto.

As a result, Wolves have reportedly accepted that the Portugal international will leave them. However, they’re not expected to go down without a fight.

With Liverpool also said to be targeting Neto as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, the Midlands side are claimed to be looking for £79m to sell their star man. As they have the attention of three of the division’s biggest clubs, Wolves are reportedly looking to instigate a bidding war.

Liverpool battling for Neto

As far as we’re concerned, there’s no way Liverpool should be getting into a bidding war over Neto. Not at that kind of price.

He’s had a decent season and is well proven in the Premier League. But for almost £80m you’d be expecting a fair bit more for your money.

Both City and Arsenal have recently spent over £100m on a single player alone. We know that they’ll go to those lengths if they’re convinced by a signing.

As a result, Liverpool should leave them to it. Neto is simply not worth that kind of fare.

The Portuguese is a good player and you can see why Liverpool would be interested. In terms of a Salah successor, he’s one of the few genuine candidates as a left-footed forward. The former Braga man has also seemingly been on the Reds’ radar for a long while.

But that simply isn’t enough to go overboard with a silly transfer fee.

Arsenal and City have set the precedent by bringing in two Premier League players for such fantastical fees. Football Transfers claim in their piece that Wolves are looking to make Neto their very own Declan Rice; sell for a huge price and reinvest in the squad.

Of course that is their want. If there are clubs out there to pay their asking-prices then why shouldn’t they hike it as high as they can. We only ask that Liverpool steer clear of such nonsense. Knock £30m off, and then we might be interested.
