Liverpool are starting to draw up plans for life beyond Mohamed Salah.
Although Salah may yet sign a new contract to stay at Liverpool, he isn’t getting any younger. As links with a summer move to Saudi Arabia continue, the Reds need to be smart and get the ball rolling on an eventual replacement.
So far, there have been a couple of names put forward as potentials where this is concerned. Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is one to have gained a little traction of late.
However, according to The Daily Mail, Liverpool may actually be looking for a player even younger than 22-year-old Olise.
They claim that the Reds are keeping a close watch on ‘young, versatile attacking talent’ to act as Salah’s eventual replacement. With this in mind, Liverpool have reportedly earmarked 17-year-old Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme as one such option.
It is claimed that this isn’t especially pressing for the Reds right now, though. Their focus for the summer window is said to remain bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s defence.
Liverpool keeping an eye on Guilherme
This isn’t the first time that Liverpool have been mentioned in connection with Guilherme.
Back in November, none other than transfer expert Fabrizio Romano pinpointed the Reds as a club who have been tracking the teenager for a while.
Clearly though, with a talent like Guilherme, they don’t seem to be the only club to have caught wind of him. Romano named both Bayern Munich and Chelsea as two more long-term admirers.
With such big clubs looking at him, it seems likely that the Palmeiras youngster will command a big fee when he is eventually sold.
There have been reports that Guilherme’s contract includes a £48m release clause. Perhaps that’s going to be needed to be paid in full.

If that ends up being the case, then it’s tricky to see Liverpool being too involved. That is the kind of fee the Reds have tended to pay on attackers over recent years. But it has usually been spent on far more established players than Guilherme.
Of course, if the Brazilian is that good, then maybe Liverpool will make an exception. We’d be surprised, though.
In any case, it sounds like the Reds are scouring the world for the ‘next Mohamed Salah.’ That isn’t going to be an easy thing to find, so the longer they give themselves to do it, the better. Who knows though, it could end up being years before someone like Guilherme is needed. Here’s to hoping, anyway.
