It’s only four days into the January transfer window, but Liverpool has already been quite active in the market. Perhaps not in the way you would expect though.
So far the club has made four deals in total, recalling players from loan deals with Fabio Carvalho, Owen Beck, Rhys Williams and James Balagizi having all now returned back to Anfield.
Of course, what everyone is keeping an eye on though are the significant transfers that could have an impact on Liverpool’s first team.
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest question around Jurgen Klopp’s first team at the moment is surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah.

What does the future hold for Mohamed Salah?
He has just entered the last 18-months of his contract and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will look to extend his stay further. There are murmurs of a potential renewal being on the cards, but so far there’s been no concrete reports.
On the latest BBC Transfer Gossip Daily, there was a discussion about Salah’s future, with journalist Luke Edwards addressing what might be on the cards for the Egyptian.
The journalist who also writes for The Telegraph suggested that he is almost certain Salah will move to the Saudi league at some point in the future.
“Yeah he did,” Edwards said when asked about whether Salah had signed a new deal recently (referring to his renewal in 2022)
“I think Mo Salah to the Saudi Pro League, if I was going to get my crystal ball out and say a transfer is definitely going to happen it would be that. They tried, really, really hard in the summer and Liverpool if you remember dug their heels in and resisted but the rumours continued right through from June until September 1st that he could go.”
Edwards though refused to give a definite timeframe when Salah’s rumoured departure from Anfield might happen.
“He earns about £350k a week at Liverpool. He has been incredible again this season. A huge part of why Liverpool are for me favourites to win the title as we reach the half-way stage. 18 goals already, obviously he is going to go away to the African Cup of Nations this month and he will be sorely missed by Liverpool.
“But he is 30 and I’m slightly surprised Liverpool would want to offer him a new deal because of that age and because they haven’t traditionally done that with players over the age of 30. But I think his form this season would certainly warrant it.
“I just think the Saudi Pro League clubs, the public investment fund in Saudi Arabia, they’re going to want Mo Salah as their poster boy of that league and they’re going to keep coming and they’re going to keep throwing a lot of money at that and at some point Liverpool have that decision to make don’t they? A player who is going to be 31-32 when his current contract expires in 2025 – he’s already into the last 18 months. Are they going to offer him a new deal? Quite possibly, as I say his performances warrant it but I just don’t think the Saudi league is going to go away.”
Salah’s move to the Saudi Pro League is definitely a high possibility. However, with those murmurs of a new contract and considering the form he is in at the moment it would be a surprise to see him leave even in the next 12-months.
At the moment, all the talk around him is just speculation. Only time will tell what Liverpool’s true intentions are. But certainly, it would seem a bit premature from Liverpool to let him go in the next six months.
