Liverpool have firm belief in two of their ageing players and want to offer them new contracts

With another year having already arrived, Liverpool are once again being forced into thinking about the future. Jurgen Klopp has launched his Liverpool 2.0 last summer – very much focused on the future and heralding a new era.

What must now be determined is who fits into those plans and who does not. Last summer, Klopp let several of his older players leave.

This summer there is no expectation of such a mass exodus but with players’ contract renewals up in the air – there may be movement on that front. Although according to the latest reports, it could be the antithesis of what happened last year.

Liverpool thinking about contract renewals

According to a report by The Athletic there is a firm belief that even though Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are close to approaching their mid-thirties they are in such good shape that they will be able to excel beyond that.

This increases the likelihood that they will be offered contract renewals at the club.

This will come as no surprise to most. Salah and Van Dijk are both still in their peak. They’ve hit new heights this season and have not looked like slowing down at all. Liverpool would be smart to extend their contracts.

Right now, there are probably very few players who could perform the job they have done so far this season.
