Liverpool have set their sights on a new transfer target to complete their midfield rebuild.

The Reds signed four new players last summer to fix what had become a problem position for Jurgen Klopp. But that hasn’t stopped them being linked with adding yet another.

Rumours that could be Shakhtar Donestk’s Georgiy Sudakov have come in this week, while Newcastle United enforcer Bruno Guimaraes is another regularly said to be a possibility.

Now though, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have added a new one to the mix – Ederson of Atalanta. They claim that the 24-year-old is now ‘in the sights’ of Liverpool.

However, it seems as though it may be difficult to extract him from his current team. It’s reported that Ederson’s future is for the moment linked to that of former Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners. With Koopmeiners reportedly high on Juventus’ shopping list, Atalanta are said to be unwilling to sell both the Dutchman and Ederson.

If Juve put down a big offer for Koopmeiners, the suggestion is that the side from Bergamo could sell him, though. This would look like taking the Brazilian’s sale off the table. In the meantime, Newcastle are said to be joining Liverpool in taking an interest in Ederson.

Ederson on Liverpool’s radar

To many reading this, the name Ederson will only mean one thing: Manchester City’s goalkeeper. But, quietly, there has been another man living up to the excellent reputation of his older namesake.

Having arrived at Atalanta from Salernitana in summer of 2022, the midfielder has become a key player for Gian Piero Gasperini.

Ederson has started all but one of La Dea’s 20 Serie A matches this season. After scoring just once in 34 games last season, he already has five goals this time around.

This has, inevitably, led to plenty of suggestions – like this one – that the former Corinthians man could be on the move.

Interestingly, Ederson has already given his take on claims that he could be about to move on from Bergamo.

In quotes from The Chronicle on Thursday, he reacts to the current transfer rumours.

“This is normal when the transfer market opens, for some situations to come up,” Ederson says. “It happened in Brazil, it happened when I was at Salernitana.

“For me it’s better this way, it means that I’m doing well and that there are many people watching me. It always happens with the market, but the most important thing is to do well at Atalanta and I’m doing very well here.”

If he keeps doing as well as he has been, maybe we’ll see Ederson at Anfield in the near future.
