Liverpool could look at signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as an alternative to Romeo Lavia.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Lavia as they look to complete their midfield rebuild. However, with question marks over his value for money, nothing has moved forward.
Now, as they prepare to lose Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, The i take a look at where Liverpool are currently at in regards to other options.

With Lavia’s price deemed ‘excessive,’ four other names are put forward.
The first is Kalvin Phillips, but the 27-year-old is said to be ‘committed’ to staying at Manchester City. Similarly, Ryan Gravenberch is claimed to be ‘not for sale’ at Bayern Munich. Interestingly, there’s no dissenting word on Sofyan Amrabat who could also be of interest.
Finally, Koopmeiners’ name is added to the list. Liverpool have reportedly been scouting the Dutchman for the past 12 months and he’s claimed to ‘fit the possible profile’ that the Reds are looking for.
Liverpool look at Lavia alternatives
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Koopmeiners this summer since long before the window opened.
They were actually named in connection to the Atalanta man as far back as the January transfer window. Nothing ever materialised, though.
And since then, it has gone a little quiet where Koopmeiners is concerned.

The Reds’ list of possible midfield targets has been whittled down and whittled down. With Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai arriving, it appeared that the likes of the Netherlands international were fated to be red herrings.
But the possible exits of Fabinho and Henderson has put the cat amongst the pigeons. Liverpool are now scrambling to get a good-level replacement in for Fabinho especially. Koopmeiners could fit that bill.
He may not be as natural a defensive midfielder as the Brazilian, but the 25-year-old can definitely do a job at the base of the midfield. It’s not for nothing that Koopmeiners has been called ‘extraordinary’ by former Atalanta favourite Domenico Progna [Tuttomercatoweb].
Nevertheless, as alluded to in The i, the countryman of Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk seems to be way down the list right now. If he is targeted, it means other targets have either said no or aren’t available. That’s never a good place to start from.
