Liverpool are once again speaking to one of their transfer targets from last summer.
The Reds had a busy time of it ahead of the current season. With four new signings through the door, it was the most activity we’d seen for a little while.
But according to Calciomercato, Liverpool almost turned four new players into five. They claim that the Reds were ‘one step away’ from bringing Shakhtar Donestk’s Georgiy Sudakov to Anfield during the summer window.
Although they eventually failed to do that, Liverpool have reportedly been talking with Sudakov’s agents once again.
However, they’re seemingly far from alone in that. Both Juventus and Napoli are said to have had ‘long relations’ with the 21-year-old’s entourage, meanwhile Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also claimed to be in talks.
Shakhtar are reportedly ready to play hardball with interested clubs, though. According to Calciomercato, the Ukrainian side will demand at least £34m in order to sell Sudakov.
Liverpool look to Sudakov
This is actually the first we’ve heard of Liverpool’s interest in Sudakov. If they were close to making him a Red last year then they kept it remarkably quiet.
Nevertheless, the Ukraine international would be an interesting addition.
Two-footed and versatile, Sudakov tends to play from the left of midfield, and can play further forward or slightly deeper.
In truth, his profile doesn’t necessarily fit what Liverpool might need to add to their midfield at the moment. He isn’t a defensive midfielder put it that way.

Despite that, we’re always interested in the Reds adding top young players to their arsenal. At just 21, Sudakov is certainly that.
For the time being, we’d be surprised if Liverpool took this any further, though. Should they pass him up mind you, it sounds like one of Europe’s big guns will be ready to swoop in.
That won’t phase Liverpool too much. But if they really are speaking to Sudakov and his people, then they might want to hurry things along before it gets too crowded.
Expect to see this young man at a top club over the next year or so. Whether that will be at Liverpool, we’re not so sure.
