Liverpool are already preparing their business ahead of the summer transfer window.
Of course, there is a market currently ongoing, but it seems as though the Reds won’t be adding anyone to their squad this month. Nevertheless, all systems clearly are go for the summer, with the likes of Michael Olise potentially on Liverpool’s shopping list.
Another who has been mentioned semi-regularly as a possible target is Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. With Newcastle seemingly needing to sell before they buy, Bruno has been put forward as someone who could be sold at the season’s end.
Given that he has a release clause of around £100m, his arrival at Anfield has always seemed unlikely. But according to The i, Liverpool really are interested in Bruno.
There is a catch, though. Actually there are a couple. The first is that Newcastle are reportedly unwilling to negotiate a transfer fee of anything less than the Brazilian’s £100m clause. It’s claimed that any club trying to come in at lower than this price will be ‘instantly rejected’. A move in January is also said to be a non-starter.
Then there are the other clubs. Two are named here alongside Liverpool, and both would surely make things difficult for the Reds. PSG are the first, with all their riches and the second are that familiar foe of Jurgen Klopp – Real Madrid. The two European giants are reportedly keen on Bruno, too.
Liverpool in Bruno race
It isn’t necessarily a surprise to see Bruno’s name crop up in regards to Liverpool. The Brazil international has supposedly been on their radar for a long while.
But it still somehow feels unlikely that the Reds would be targeting such a high-cost player from a Premier League rival.
Having said that, Newcastle’s current financial situation could lead to an opportunity that Liverpool didn’t think they’d get. If Bruno is the player they really want, then the Moises Caicedo saga has already shown that they’re willing to pay over the odds to get that.
Ordinarily, there’s perhaps no chance the Magpies would entertain a sale. But the former Lyon man now has his price. All Liverpool have to do is pay it.
One man who seems to be of the opinion that Bruno may be worth the entrance fee is Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Newcastle midfielder was part of the team who pushed his City side so close last weekend. And after that game, Guardiola admitted that “Bruno’s impact was important” [The Chronicle].
The Spanish coach was generally referring to the aggressiveness the 26-year-old brought to Newcastle. There’s no doubt that Bruno is a combative player.
From a Liverpool point of view, he could be exactly the kind of personality needed in the No.6 role.
There’s still a little way to run in this saga and it won’t be settled until the summer at least. But it’s certainly one to keep an eye out for.
