Andy Robertson has shared his reaction to former Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson moving to Ajax.
Henderson sealed his transfer from Al Ettifaq to the Dutch giants yesterday evening. The move must come as a relief to the 33-year-old, who had been pushing to leave Saudi Arabia since the start of the month.
As a result, Liverpool’s former captain posted on his Instagram page to announce his arrival at Ajax yesterday.
“Amsterdam! So happy to be here. Can’t wait to see you all soon,” wrote Henderson, alongside a shot of him in the team’s home strip.
Unsurprisingly, there were a couple of notable names from Liverpool in the comments. Trent Alexander-Arnold sent through three red X’s – a symbol of Ajax, while another former Red – Adam Lallana – posted three faces with starry eyes.
Then there was Robertson, who posted a “Love it mate,” in reaction to his old mate’s latest adventure. All the best, Hendo!
Henderson seals Ajax move
While being good news for Henderson, his transfer to Ajax does throw up more questions about his exit from Anfield last summer.
You can’t help but shake the feeling that it was all so unnecessary.
Had the England international moved directly from Liverpool to the Amsterdam club, the feeling around him would be totally different.
Jordan was even booed by fans of the England national team earlier this season. His reputation has been left badly tarnished by his decision to join the project in Saudi Arabia.
But had he decided to leave Liverpool and join Ajax instead, surely the reaction wouldn’t have been quite so vociferous.

Indeed, it’s actually great to see Henderson come to such a storied club. Ajax are historically one of Europe’s very biggest institutions. Their reputation as a great football playing side and a bringer through of elite talents is perhaps unmatched in Europe.
Few English players have played there, especially in the modern era and as such it’s really interesting to see how Henderson gets on. A transfer directly from Liverpool to Ajax would possibly have been seen as an exciting way for Hendo to spend the latter part of his career.
That it comes via a bizarre and ill-thought-out move to Saudi Arabia has removed that feeling quite significantly. Still, Henderson is reportedly very well thought of by his old colleagues at Anfield, some of whom have already expressed their happiness for him. We’re happy too. Hopefully all goes well.
