£12m player desperate to return to the Premier League after leaving Liverpool last summer

After leaving Liverpool in 2023, Jordan Henderson is now desperate to return to the Premier League.

Henderson was convinced by Steven Gerrard to make a shock £12m move to Al Ettifaq ahead of the new season. Jurgen Klopp was seemingly planning for the season with his captain onboard, but the 33-year-old jumped ship for the riches on offer in Saudi Arabia.

Now though, according to The Daily Mail, Henderson is already plotting his escape route from the Middle East. The former Reds skipper is reportedly struggling to adapt to the lifestyle and heat in Saudi Arabia, as well as the less-than-inspiring crowds Al Ettifaq are playing in-front of.

Another thing said to have ‘taken a toll’ on Henderson is the criticism he received from his homeland following his summer transfer.

As a result, and with the transfer window open, the England international is claimed to have told teammates that he’s ‘considering his options.’ Henderson would reportedly love to move back home to the Premier League, but would have to take a ‘significant’ pay-cut to do so.

Al Ettifaq are said to be open to offers for their captain, but a return to England would supposedly personally cost Henderson around £7m in lost income and tax. A truly sorry state of affairs.

Henderson ready for PL return

We hate to say it, but this is the least surprising story we’ve seen for a while. This was a move that was truly destined to fail.

That Henderson is ready to drop everything in Saudi and return after barely six months only underlines just what a mistake he made in leaving Liverpool last year.

Although Klopp had told the former skipper that he would no longer be a certain starter at Anfield this season, he would have definitely played a big part.

Henderson could have slowly made the transition from starter to helpful squad player with his reputation at the club well and truly intact.

Instead, he threw a hissy fit and moved to a start-up league for a massive payday.

As a result, it’s hard to feel too much sympathy for Henderson. But at the same time, this news only accentuates the sadness at the manner of his departure.

After 12 trophy-laden years at Anfield, Jordan should have left a hero. Instead, he chose to slink out of the backdoor.

There will perhaps be calls that Liverpool should save him from his nightmare and bring him back like nothing happened. Had the team been struggling this season, maybe they would have. But the Reds have now well and truly moved on without Henderson. The bridges have been burned.
