Director suggests he’s waiting for offers for £21m player, after claims Liverpool want him

Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone says the club have had no offers for reported Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat is said to be one of the players being considered by Liverpool as a replacement for Fabinho this summer. Manchester United are also being heavily linked with the 26-year-old.

However, speaking to Sky Italia via Firenze Viola, Barone admitted that nothing official had come his way for Amrabat. Intriguingly though, the American didn’t rule out the midfielder’s exit, either.

“He is also very attached to the team and also to me, we speak in English and we talk almost every day,” begins Barone.

“At the moment nothing official has arrived. I told him to come here focused because he is a Fiorentina player. He must have his head here and be ready for the start of the season, then if something comes we will evaluate him. We have a midfield department that is already very strong.”

Amrabat up for grabs

By the sounds of Barone’s comments, reports from Calciomercato that Fiorentina are open to selling Amrabat look spot on. The Italian outlet claimed last week that offers as low as £21m could be accepted.

If that is the case, then Liverpool should be seriously considering the Moroccan.

No, he wouldn’t be the big name that plenty are seeking as a defensive midfielder. But he does have good pedigree and is very much a specialist in the role.

With the midfield market badly inflated following Declan Rice’s big move to Arsenal, it’s tough to find value. £21m for a player who lit up the World Cup last year should not be sniffed at, not at all.

When you consider that Liverpool are being quoted £70m for the likes of Cheick Doucoure, it actually seems staggeringly low.

In reality, Fiorentina may want a little more, especially if there’s more than one bidder. Nevertheless, you can’t see Amrabat going for anything like the prices being bandied about elsewhere.

After heavy, heavy links to all sorts of clubs since the turn of the year, it’s amazing that Amrabat is still in Florence. Whoever signs him will surely be getting themselves a bargain.
