Liverpool are still big fans of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, despite his reluctance to leave the Bernabeu.

The Reds tried to sign Tchouameni last summer, but were pipped to the post by Real Madrid. After a slightly difficult first season in Spain though, links to Liverpool have reappeared.

Today, The Daily Mail weigh in on those claims, reporting that the Reds do indeed ‘continue to admire’ the 23-year-old.

However, Tchouameni is seemingly uninterested in a move to Anfield. It’s claimed that ‘as things stand,’ the France international remains ‘reluctant’ to leave Madrid.

Tchouameni is said to be on a list of players being considered by Liverpool to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. Kalvin Phillips, Ryan Gravenberch, Sofyan Amrabat and Cheick Doucoure are the others named as being on the radar.

Tchouameni not interested in Liverpool

For a lot of fans, Tchouameni would represent the dream midfield signing this summer. He’s not had the best time in Madrid, but he’s still the ‘exceptional’ player Paul Pogba described back in 2021 [Madein Foot].

Up until this point though, there have been no signs that the player wants to come to Anfield.

Until recently, there wasn’t even an indication that he’d be willing to cut-short his Real Madrid career. That has now changed slightly, with German media claiming that Tchouameni would be interested in joining Bayern Munich.

But even then, the smart money should be on the Frenchman staying put for now.

From Liverpool’s point of view, that’s obviously a shame. Having been so close to signing him a year ago, you’d have thought that a lot of the legwork would have been done in regards to personal terms and things like that.

If Madrid are open to letting Tchouameni go, then the Reds should in theory be at the front of the queue.

For now, that doesn’t look especially likely to happen. Nevertheless, it’s encouraging to hear that Liverpool are still aiming high in the market. You never know.
