FSG were prepared to spend up to £60m on bringing Aurelien Tchouameni to Liverpool during the summer.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who suggest that it’s ‘nonsense’ that the Liverpool owners haven’t backed Jurgen Klopp in the market.
Backing that up, they claim that the Reds were ready to shell out a big fee on the 22-year-old before he joined Real Madrid.
However, Madrid scuppered their plans, swooping in to sign the French midfielder.
Without the presence of the European Champions, perhaps FSG’s £60m would have been enough. Instead, Tchouameni left Monaco for a reported £85m. No dice for Liverpool.

Liverpool fail to find Tchouameni alternative
This is a little bit of a reach from The Mail. FSG may have been willing to back Klopp with £60m, but Tchouameni went for well over that figure.
Had they been willing to push further, then maybe they still could have trumped Madrid for the France star.
Having missed out on their top target, Liverpool seemingly didn’t have a back-up. So, in the end, their decision not to match the Spanish club has led to a pretty disastrous start to the season.
Perhaps that isn’t the owners’ fault, though. They are not football people after all. The reality is that after losing Tchouameni, Liverpool should have had a plan B.

That they thought they could make it through to January or the following summer with what they had, is probably on Jurgen Klopp.
£60m should have been more than enough to sign an excellent midfielder. They may not have been ‘extraordinary’ like Tchouameni, but you’d get a pretty good player for that amount of money.
Whether or not FSG will be there to spend money in the next transfer window is anyone’s guess.
But given the current squad and the rebuild that is needed, whoever is in charge of the chequebook is going to need a heck of a lot more than £60m.
