Liverpool have not been in contact with Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners over the prospect of a move to Anfield.
Koopmeiners has been one of the names put forward as a potential target for the Reds this summer. As they scramble to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, the 25-year-old looks set to be in the mix.
Not so, according to journalist David Lynch. Speaking on his YouTube channel today, Lynch claimed that – for the time being at least – there’s been no contact between Liverpool and Koopmeiners.

“Koopmeiners has been suggested as a player Liverpool have liked in the past and maybe could revisit now they need to bolster the midfield further,” explained the journalist. “It’s my understanding that there hasn’t been any contact on the player’s side just yet which suggests to me that he’s possibly not high up on the list as far as Liverpool are concerned at the moment.
“I think they would be doing that groundwork now if he was a player Liverpool felt that they wanted to get in if they were to lose Fabinho and Henderson and that isn’t happening at the moment.
“So, maybe one to potentially cross off the list. Although things do change quickly in terms of if they get a rejection from elsewhere, maybe they come back to that one. But it’s not one that they’re looking at currently.”
No Koopmeiners contact for Liverpool
Koopmeiners has only been mentioned tentatively in terms of a move to Liverpool, so this isn’t a surprise.
The Netherlands international has always felt like an alternative option rather than one the Reds are likely to puruse.
As Lynch mentions though, that doesn’t mean that he can be ruled out completely. Liverpool appear to be weighing up the possibility of moving for a number of different players.

Should all of those fall through or become unavailable, Koopmeiners could still come to the fore.
If he does, Liverpool would be getting a midfielder with exceptional technique. He’s more in the Henderson mould than the Fabinho one, but he can play as the deepest-lying midfielder without too much trouble.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t sound like this is something we should expect to see happen.
That’s fine by us. Liverpool look to be thoroughly assessing their options to make sure they get the very best they can. If that ends up not being Koopmeiners, then it must be that we’re getting somebody better.
