Liverpool will reportedly have to beat Napoli if they’re to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, with the Dutchman now a man in demand.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds face competition for the 25-year-old from the Serie A title-winners, with Napoli now interested in Koopmeiners as the Italian side look to add to their midfield after their historic league season.

Koopmeiners is expected to leave Atalanta this summer with the Bergamo-based club valuing their star midfielder at £34m. And Liverpool have been one of the main sides tracking the Netherlands international this summer, with Jurgen Klopp eager to flesh out his squad in the transfer market.

With midfield the priority area for the Reds, Koopmeiners could be an impressive capture for Liverpool to recruit to their ranks for the new season. However, Napoli’s interest might be a serious roadblock for the Merseyside giants in the coming weeks.

Indeed, the Italian champions command quite the allure this summer having won the Scudetto with one of the most exciting teams in all of Europe. And as a result, Liverpool could meet their match in Napoli in the race to sign Koopmeiners.
