Jordan Henderson is weighing up leaving Liverpool this summer, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Reds captain has reportedly been targeted by Steven Gerrard, who has recently taken over at Saudi side Al Ettifaq. And now, according to The Telegraph, Henderson is actually putting serious thought into an Anfield exit.

It’s claimed that the 33-year-old is ‘wrestling with the dilemma’ of earning an ‘eye-watering’ pay-packet, against the ‘wrench’ of moving on from Liverpool after 12 years.

Gerrard himself is said to be leading the pursuit of Henderson, although an official offer is reportedly yet to be submitted.

Whether it is or not is claimed to rest solely on Jordan himself. Should he give the green light to a move, an offer will supposedly come Liverpool’s way. If he does not, it never will.

How Jurgen Klopp feels about the potential of his captain leaving is reportedly not yet known. However it’s claimed that the manager will want the situation sorted as soon as possible. For Henderson’s part, a final decision is anticipated ‘shortly.’

Henderson weighing up Saudi adventure

You can never rule anything out in football, but we’d still be incredibly surprised to see Henderson leave Liverpool this summer.

With two years left on his contract, a transfer next year would feel like a possibility, perhaps. But for the time being, it’s hard to see why he would want to go.

Of course, there is one big reason Henderson would opt to swap Merseyside for Dammam. The chance to increase his reported £190k-a-week salary [Salary Sport] at Liverpool isn’t going to come around again.

If he leaves for anywhere other than the Middle East, Hendo’s next contract is going to be far, far less than that.

Nevertheless, we still think the captain has the competitive spirit to lead Liverpool through this next rebuild. He’s returned to training in impeccable shape and looks ready to test himself against heightened midfield competition.

Furthermore, it still feels likely that he’ll want to be involved in next summer’s European Championship with England. Still a key part of Gareth Southgate’s plans now, that could change if he makes the move to Saudi.

That might well change if he stays and drops down the pecking order at Liverpool, too. But Henderson usually backs himself and you can see him continuing to do so at Anfield. We’re confident Jordan will stay, but this is a slight worry nonetheless.
