Harvey Elliott has asked Levi Colwill to ‘have a chat’ with him, after the defender was linked with Liverpool.

Colwill is reportedly assessing his options ahead of a return to Chelsea this summer, with claims abound that Liverpool are huge admirers.

Before he heads back to Cobham though, the 20-year-old is featuring for England at the U21 Euros. And having qualified for the final with a 2-0 win over Israel last night, Colwill took to Instagram to share his delight.

“One last push! Onto the final,” wrote the Chelsea man.

Amongst those under the line was Liverpool’s very own No.19. Elliott is a teammate of Colwill’s for the tournament, so this could really mean anything. But it’s easy to see why his ‘Let’s have a chat’ comment could be seen through the lens of Liverpool’s interest in the defender

Elliott followed up his cheeky remark with an endorsement of his England colleague.

“Some player,” added the 20-year-old.

Liverpool ready to ramp up interest in Colwill

With Elliott and Colwill away together for England, it’s probably unwise to read too much into any comments such as these.

But the reports linking the Chelsea man to Liverpool have become hard to ignore over recent days. The clamour is growing.

As a result, and knowing the cheeky chap Elliott can be, it feels like there’s only one thing this is about.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans though, no matter how many chats Colwill has with Elliott, it’s unlikely to make a difference. The Blues have already been prepared to knock back offers of around £40m for the England defender [Football London].

For the moment, Chelsea are absolutely resolute in their stance that they won’t sell their academy graduate.

As long as they promise Colwill a reasonable amount of football for next season, that should be enough for now. But it’s been claimed that Liverpool are ready to spend big on the youngster if given any encouragement to do so.

Should the Blues fail to convince Colwill that he’s in their plans, that could be the trigger the Reds are looking for. It always helps to have players extolling the virtues of joining your club. So, if Liverpool really think they have a chance here, they should urge Elliott to keep in his teammate’s ear.
