Liverpool made a second enquiry to Chelsea over signing Levi Colwill this summer, but it was rejected out of hand.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old, as his future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance. And according to 90min, Liverpool have already followed up on their interest: twice.

They claim that the Reds first asked Chelsea about the prospect of signing Colwill earlier in the summer. But they received no encouragement that there may be a chance of signing the centre-back.

This reportedly didn’t stop them from coming back again, though. Indeed, it’s claimed that Liverpool ‘recently’ made a second enquiry to the West Londoners in regard to Colwill.

Unfortunately, this was treated in the same way as the earlier approach, with Chelsea said to have ‘swiftly knocked back’ their Premier League rivals. Manchester City also reportedly enquired, but were also shut down.

90min claim that Mauricio Pochettino’s new side are ‘not prepared to entertain’ the idea that Colwill will leave this summer. It looks like he’s staying put.

Colwill still in Liverpool’s crosshairs

Up until this point, it seems as though Chelsea have been nothing but clear with their stance on Colwill: he’s not for sale.

Despite that, Liverpool, Brighton and City appear to have other ideas. Despite the very public assertion that the England U21 star won’t leave, these clubs don’t seem to be stopping. They must be getting encouragement from somewhere.

It isn’t like Liverpool to keep pushing for a player if there’s absolutely no chance of him joining. The Reds don’t tend to waste their time on unattainable targets.

As a result, it seems possible that Coliwill or his camp have giving them some kinds of indication that a move could happen.

The youngster is reportedly set for showdown talks with new boss Pochettino this week. The suggestion seems to be that if they don’t go well, the defender could push for an exit.

Still, even if Colwill does demand to leave West London, it looks likely that Chelsea will actively block any exit.

Those kinds of scenarios never tend to end well for the clubs involved, though. If the former Brighton loanee decides he wants out, his club would be wise to let him go. In that event, it looks like Liverpool will be there.
