Former Liverpool player Don Hutchison has shared a list of players he would sign for the Reds if they had the money Chelsea has at their disposal.
Since the end of last season, the Blues have spent over £600m on new players – with their January spend alone totalling £323m.
Liverpool fans have watched the process in jealousy, after years of being starved of a decent transfer budget by FSG.
Subsequently, Hutchison has taken to Twitter to share who he’d sign for his former club if they suddenly possessed the huge riches enjoyed by Chelsea.
“If FSG gave Jurgen Klopp Chelsea’s 600million, Liverpool would win the Premier League and the Champions League next season,” he wrote.
“Here would be my buys: Victor Osimhen, Napoli; Jude Bellingham, Borussia Dortmund; Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich; Matheus Nunes, Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Klopp would even hand FSG back about 150 million in change!”
What Liverpool could do with the money…
Although these players would be great additions to Klopp’s squad, there are certainly higher priorities going into the summer transfer window.
As widely reported, Liverpool are fully set on trying to sign Bellingham in the summer. It will take over £100m to land the 19-year-old at Anfield, using up the vast majority of the side’s budget.
In addition to the number eight, the Reds need to replace Fabinho as the team’s defensive midfielder. The likes of West Ham star Declan Rice would be perfect for the club, but he would likely cost too much for them to afford.
Therefore, the likes of Sofyan Amrabat, of Fiorentina, or Khephren Thuram, of Nice, would be cheaper alternatives.
Although fans would love to see Osimhen in a Liverpool shirt, given he’s been hailed as a ‘phenomenal’ striker, it really isn’t a position the club should prioritise reinforcing.
Instead, a centre-back better than Joel Matip and Joe Gomez should be high on their list. Perhaps Josko Gvardiol, of RB Leipzig, in an ideal world.
However, with FSG at the helm, investment like this will never be possible at Liverpool.
