Liverpool are exploring the idea of signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian outlet claim the Reds have expressed an interest in bringing the 23-year-old to Anfield.
However, they also suggest the Merseyside club have been warned that it would take an offer of at least £87m to secure his services.
Back in the summer, The Mirror reported Jurgen Klopp’s side were interested in signing Osimhen, alongside Arsenal and Manchester United.
However, a proposed deal never fully came to fruition, and the player remained at Napoli.
Liverpool want to sign Osimhen
When looking at the striker’s numbers in front of goal, it is no wonder the Reds have held a longstanding interest in the Nigeria international.
Thus far this season, Osimhen has bagged nine goals in 11 Serie A matches. In the Champions League, he also netted as his side cruised to a 4-2 victory over Ajax.
During his return from injury against the Dutch giants, the attacker passed up the opportunity to take a penalty, instead giving the ball to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Already impressed by his performance, Didier Drogba took to Twitter to share his praise for the number nine.
“That’s a complete striker: unselfishness… the real meaning of win as A TEAM,” he exclaimed.
With such an incredible conversion rate, it would always be assumed a forward like Osimhen would have a selfish streak to him. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Klopp would love this, as this is the sort of player he likes to surround himself by at Kirkby.
Saying this, an £87m swoop for a striker, whilst the club need a midfielder, seems unlikely.
