Barcelona have failed in their pursuit to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, after claims Liverpool want to sign him.

That’s according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Earlier in the day, it was reported the Spanish giants had attempted a loan move for the 26-year-old, which the Italian outfit rejected.

Barcelona’s offer was reportedly a loan for around £2.5m, which also included an option to buy the player for £32.5m this summer.

The Morocco international didn’t take this rejection well, and he skipped training today in an attempt to force a move. He also posted a message on Instagram supposedly linked to his desire to leave.

However, Romano has shared a final update on the situation. In the end, Amrabat will stay at Fiorentina.

Amrabat to Liverpool in the summer?

This could be hugely beneficial to Liverpool.

Although the club deemed his valuation too expensive earlier this month, there’s the possibility that this could come down by the time summer comes around.

The Reds desperately need a number of additions in midfield, and one area going slightly unnoticed is the number six position.

Both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have looked a shadow of themselves in recent months; the drop off in their quality has been absolutely huge.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp has had to resort to using 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic in the role.

Although he is a hugely talented youngster, the teenager should not have to start week-in week-out for a team who should usually be competing for the Premier League title.

Therefore, Liverpool should look to sign Amrabat in the summer.

The Moroccan would help solve the Reds’ defensive issues, whilst adding further depth to the squad.

However, this won’t be easy, with Barcelona also interested in the ‘exceptional’ player.
