West Ham United manager David Moyes has claimed midfielder Declan Rice will sell for a British transfer record when he leaves the Irons, after claims Liverpool want to sign him.

Speaking to the media (via The Athletic) after the Hammers’ 1-1 draw with Newcastle yesterday, the Scotsman lauded praise on the 24-year-old, who is tipped to leave the East London outfit in the summer.

“Declan was a top player in the first half,” Moyes said.

“He showed so many things.

“Undoubtedly he’s going to be a top player and undoubtedly he’ll be a British transfer record and more whenever he leaves West Ham.”

According to Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol, the Reds join Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to secure the England international’s signature.

Liverpool need Declan Rice

Liverpool are fully set on signing Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham in the summer.

However, even if they get the 19-year-old over the line, there are still glaring issues in the midfield.

The drop-off shown by Fabinho in recent months has been astronomical.

Going forward, it’s unlikely he’s going to improve or even recover the athleticism he’s seemingly missing.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp has resorted to using 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic in the defensive position in the middle of the park.

Although he has been one of the Reds’ top performers in recent months, it isn’t sustainable for the youngster to play week-in week-out.

Therefore, a player like Rice would be of huge use to Liverpool.

At 24-years-old, the Hammer still fits the Reds’ transfer policy when it comes to age.

Furthermore, he already has a wealth of experience in the Premier League, meaning he’d be able to make an instant impact at Anfield.

However, with Jack Grealish costing £100m and Enzo Fernandez recently arriving for £106.8m, it will take a hefty amount for Liverpool to land Rice in the summer.
