Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have a tough task in trying to manage Thiago right now. The Spaniard is in fantastic form.

Thiago is, in our estimation, the most in-form player at Liverpool right now. He’s simply flying and hitting a standard that few players on the planet can match.

His performance at Wembley against Manchester City was different class and we picked it out after the game. He then took things up a notch at Anfield this week in a 4-0 demolition of Manchester United.

Jamie Carragher had it down as Thiago’s best display in a Liverpool shirt. Gary Lineker couldn’t hide his love for the Spaniard, saying he loves watching him play. Jordan Henderson labelled his teammate ‘fantastic’ and says it’s a pleasure to play with him.

Thiago is earning rave reviews, then, and playing to a fantastic level. Liverpool rely on him, too – he’s the one to keep them ticking over and moving in the right directions. He’ll break the lines, run games and pick opponents apart. All of that was on show against United.

And yet, we believe Thiago is actually the player giving Jurgen Klopp the biggest headache right now.

Thiago for Liverpool

Thiago is sensational and vitally important for Liverpool. They need him, too, as the season comes to its crescendo and the Reds compete on three more fronts.

And that’s the real problem here. Every game is massive and essentially must-win, increasing the need for Thiago in this form.

At the same time, his injury record isn’t exactly great and Liverpool have seen how easily he can disappear for weeks at a time. But they can’t afford for that to happen right now.

So does Klopp rest him here and there? If so, when? Liverpool can’t afford to leave him out. Thiago isn’t like Mohamed Salah, though, where he can play virtually every game and show no signs of it.

That’s why we think Thiago is a potential headache for Klopp right now. He’s simultaneously a player they want in every game but can’t take too many chances with. Managing his minutes – and getting it right – could end up being decisive in a season of narrow margins.
