The Yan Diomande transfer saga has been dragging on for some time, with Liverpool fans likely wondering why a deal hasn’t been struck yet.
Diomande is away competing at the World Cup, but given the Reds recently completed a move for Spain’s Victor Munoz, that really can’t be used as an excuse for the transfer not happening yet.
But the reason Liverpool still haven’t come to terms with RB Leipzig is simple, no other clubs are in advanced talks and upping their current bid would just be silly.

PSG have long been mooted as having an interest in Diomande, which isn’t ideal for the Merseyside outfit, given they are one of the most dominant sides in the world and the lure of winning the Champions League so often could be enough to land most players.
However, as of writing, the Ligue 1 outfit are yet to make a bid for the Ivorian and seem to be sitting on their hands when it comes to stepping up interest.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have had a €100m bid knocked back by Leipzig for the World Cup star.
So why haven’t they come back in with a fresh offer? Well, ask yourself this: what would be the point at this stage?
The Reds are currently the only club firmly in the picture to get a deal over the line, so outbidding yourself just seems pointless.
Sure, there is a risk that PSG or another team from around Europe eventually decide to put in an offer, and then Liverpool will be stuck in a bidding war.
But at present, FSG are taking the smart approach and just waiting it out. Reds chiefs are working hard on the player, with the view that if they can agree to good personal terms, he will eventually say ‘let me go to Liverpool’.
That goes a long way to explaining why, despite already having one offer knocked back, the Premier League side are in no rush to offer even more money.
Yes, that approach is probably not what fans want, as they would rather a transfer be completed in time for the 2026/27 pre-season.
But it should be apparent to everyone now that Liverpool’s transfer chiefs care more about getting the best deal possible rather than signing players quickly for huge money.
We saw something similar happen in January when FSG were happy to wait until this summer to land Marc Guehi on a free, but he ended up joining Manchester City for £20m instead.
Was that a mistake? Probably, but if Liverpool hold firm on not outbidding themselves for Diomande, it could end up saving them millions.
Of course, we will have to wait and see if PSG make a move soon. But if they don’t, it is the Reds who hold all the power in negotiations, especially if the player tries to force a move, which he may well do after the World Cup.
