The ‘underrated’ aspect of the Yan Diomande to Liverpool deal that nobody’s talking about

The Yan Diomande to Liverpool transfer saga has been dragging on for a while now.

Perhaps the World Cup is getting in the way of a deal, given Diomande is competing for the Ivory Coast.

But that did not stop Liverpool from signing Spanish winger Victor Munoz while he was away in North America.

Regardless, the Reds do still seem firmly in the race for Diomande, and Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about how the progress on getting an agreement in place from the player’s side is going, and that could be more important than people think.

How impressive has Yan Diomande been at the 2026 World Cup?!

Liverpool are progressing well in personal talks with Yan Diomande

Speaking on the Born ‘N Red YouTube channel, Romano said: “I think the player side of this deal is still a bit underrated in terms of the media.

“It’s always the talk about the bid, the new bid, the next bid, but I believe that Liverpool are doing an excellent work on player side in order to get the green light and to have Diomande telling Leipzig, ‘let me go to Liverpool.’

“So that’s what they’re doing and that’s why I believe there is confidence at the club to get it done.”

Still, Liverpool would have probably preferred it if the deal was wrapped up already, as the longer it drags on, the more chance there may be of another team coming in to steal the player.

PSG keep being linked with Diomande, and the player himself has spoken of his admiration for the 2025 and 2026 Champions League winners.

But if a deal for the RB Leipzig forward does not end up coming off, Liverpool have other winger targets they could turn to.

Bazoumana Toure and Said El Mala are among potential options, while PSG’s Bradley Barcola has also been linked for quite a while now.
