Liverpool supporters decide how much Yan Diomande is really worth after watching him at the World Cup

Liverpool fans are concerned about the money their club is set to spend on Yan Diomande after watching him play for Ivory Coast against Germany at the World Cup on Saturday.

The Reds have had a €100m bid turned down for Diomande, with an expectation that they will return and get closer to RB Leipzig’s reported €130m valuation in the coming days.

The Ivorian had the eyes of the Liverpool fanbase on him this weekend, and though he did some good stuff during the 2-1 defeat, he struggled to make an impact on the match at times.

This has led to some worry amongst Liverpool supporters, and when asked to name the true value of Diomande on Rousing The Kop‘s social media channels, many claimed that the 19-year-old is worth just a fraction of the price being quoted.

Liverpool fans don’t want to spend more than £75m on Diomande

£100m is a lot to spend on any footballer, but with such limited experience under his belt, Liverpool fans are beginning to think that paying so much for Diomande is borderline crazy.

RTK had plenty of responses when asking supporters to name their price for the teenager after watching him at the World Cup, with answers ranging from as low as £35m, to plenty around the £75-80m mark.

On X, fans were generally of the view that an average of around £60m would be fair, although some were willing, in some cases reluctantly, to go higher.

“Ideally 75 but with today’s prices, and no real winger that stands out, I think he is the best we got,” said one fan.

“He’s very raw still, the price should reflect that. £100m is too much,” added another.

On RTK’s Facebook page, fans were even more against the idea of spending £100m+, with many claiming they had seen nothing to suggest Diomande was worth more than £60m or so.

“60m at most why would he even be called 100m he is not better than Antony Gordon or even Elanga,” said one supporter.

“£45 to £50m nothing exceptional about him!” said another. “Walk away from possible deal, money needed is ridiculous,” added someone else.

“50 mill tops. Young unproven… and we can’t waste more big money,” was another view, with many more in the comments declaring their concern that Liverpool could be about to do something very silly in the market.

Some fans think Diomande is worth the money

Although the vast majority are clearly not sold on the value of Diomande, it would be wrong to say that everybody falls into that category.

There are some fans who are happy to see the Leipzig man arrive at Anfield, even if it is for a huge fee.

“From what I’ve seen of him at the World Cup he’s worth every penny of £100m,” one fan said.

“Just pay what they are asking, he is 19, no matter how he performing in this heat remember, he is worth it,” another claimed.

“I say he’s worth it. I’d go up to £113m if that’s what they’re asking for,” one more supporter chimed in.

Though there are real question marks over paying such a huge sum for Diomande – and fans obviously are not completely convinced – Liverpool have done their scouting and background checks, and they have seen enough to think the young winger is worth it. Whatever supporters think, the Reds are going to keep trying.
