Yan Diomande isn’t the only winger Liverpool fans should be watching closely at the World Cup

Liverpool know that fresh attacking reinforcements will be required in the 2026 summer transfer window.

Mohamed Salah has left, and even ignoring the Egyptian’s exit, there is a serious lack of quality depth on both flanks right now.

Yan Diomande is a target, of course, but there are other wingers of interest to the Reds that fans could see in action over the course of the 2026 World Cup.

Most notably, Rafael Leao of Portugal and rising star Maghnes Akliouche of France.

Liverpool targets Maghnes Akliouche and Rafael Leao could impress at the World Cup

It was reported last month that the Merseyside outfit were eyeing a double swoop for AS Monaco duo Akliouche and Lamine Camara.

The former of that duo earned a call-up to the French national team this summer and is expected to feature alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.

Now 24, Akliouche has really started to impress for Monaco in the last season or so.

Largely playing off the right, he scored seven and assisted 11 for his club last term, and could be available for a lot less than Diomande.

The aforementioned report floated a potential price of £45m, with it said Liverpool would not be put off by such a sum.

France are first in World Cup action on Tuesday, June 16, against Senegal, before meeting with Iraq and Norway.

Elsewhere, Leao wants to leave AC Milan this summer, and Liverpool are interested in the player.

Even if Diomande and Akliouche were to arrive as right-wing cover, the Reds could do with more depth on the left.

Leao, a natural left-winger, could offer that. But what makes his potential addition even more appealing is that he can play as a centre-forward as well, which would be ideal for Liverpool, given Hugo Ekitike isn’t expected back until January.

The Portuguese international scored 10 and assisted three for Milan last season and will get his World Cup campaign underway against DR Congo on June 17 before taking on Uzbekistan and Colombia.
