Liverpool are waiting for Yan Diomande to communicate his intentions to RB Leipzig as they continue in discussions over a big summer move.
The Reds had been moving quickly to try and head off interest from Paris Saint-Germain and tie up a transfer before this summer’s World Cup.
However, with the tournament now only three days away, journalist Ben Jacobs has explained that Leipzig are still waiting for an answer from Diomande on whether he wants to leave, making it potentially difficult for Liverpool to get things over the line before Thursday’s big kick-off.

RB Leipzig still awaiting Yan Diomande communication
Reports claimed that Liverpool made contact with Leipzig over Diomande back on Thursday, with suggestions that a move could happen quickly, before the World Cup’s June 11th start date.
According to Jacobs, though, those talks have not moved forwards significantly, largely owing to the fact that Leipzig are waiting for an answer from Diomande over whether he wants to leave or sign a new contract, before they negotiate a fee with Liverpool or PSG.
“Yan Diomande, Liverpool are trying,” Jacobs told TalkSPORT. “They’re actually engaged formally at the moment with RB Leipzig and they’ve already made contact with the player.
“This is going to be fascinating to see whether we get any progress now and somebody tries to make a quick move, or if the World Cup kind of stagnates this.”

“Leipzig are open, and have a good relationship with Liverpool, to speaking, but it’s more about they don’t have an answer from Diomande yet about whether he’s going to stay or go.
“There’s three parts to this story as it stands,” the journalist continued. “Liverpool, PSG – and Leipzig are trying to get the player to sign a new deal.
“Until he communicates to Leipzig if he will or won’t, that’s not going to alter the number, which is extremely high, in excess of 100 million Euros, because obviously Leipzig don’t want to give any encouragement with a potentially lower number until Diomande makes it crystal clear whether or not he’s prepared to sign a new deal, end speculation and stay until summer 2027.
“But Liverpool are trying, they have made some progress on the player side. PSG can’t be discounted. Man United are not really active.”
Ivory Coast do not kick off their own campaign until the early hours of Monday the 15th, when they face Ecuador in Philadelphia. So, Liverpool may still have a week or so to ramp things up. But with his focus beginning to turn to the World Cup, the chances of Diomande deciding his future before the tournament begins are surely now starting to fade.
