Liverpool’s hunt for a new manager is now underway after sacking Arne Slot on Saturday, May 30.

Slot has spoken out for the first time since he was relieved of his duties, while there are already a number of potential candidates being assessed by those in a position of power at Anfield.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant has issued his instant response to the sacking and has outlined his demands to see more ‘exciting, aggressive football’ moving forward.

Liverpool’s next manager needs to play aggressive football

During his second season at Liverpool, Slot was accused of playing ‘boring’ football.

It is hard to argue with such an assessment, given how poor the Merseyside outfit were for much of 2025/26.

There are obvious comparisons to Jurgen Klopp’s style, of course, with Mohamed Salah even calling for heavy metal football to return.

And Pennant made it clear when speaking on X/Twitter that he wants something similar now that Slot is gone.

He wrote: “The fans have spoken and they have been heard!!!! And rightly so, and the club have listened and done the right thing.

“Now let’s get someone in, and get Liverpool FC back to where it belongs, playing exciting, aggressive football and challenging on all fronts.”

How happy are you that Arne Slot is leaving Liverpool?!

Favourites to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool

At present, it has been reported by multiple sources that former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the favourite to replace Slot.

However, Sebastian Hoeness and Pierre Sage are being considered by Liverpool as well.

But one man who will not be taking over at Anfield for the 2026/27 season despite leaving Crystal Palace this year is Oliver Glasner.
